Pure Air Control Services has one of the few environmental laboratories that provides Coronavirus environmental testing of surface samples utilizing RT-qPCR technology.

As businesses prepare to reopen and more importantly for essential businesses that remain open, ensuring a safe environment for occupants is the number one priority. Many organizations have been taking extra measures for cleaning during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to minimize the risk. But how do they know if the cleaning protocols are effective? Especially business with confirmed cases of COVID-19?

Pure Air Control Services through their Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory (EDLab) division is now offering (SARS-CoV-2) Coronavirus environmental testing on surface samples in addition to their engineered PURE-Decon building disinfection solutions. This test is crucial for surveillance and risk mitigation in all types of business, healthcare and institutional facilities.

“Coronavirus environmental testing for verification and clearance is a game-changer for both the health and economic side of this pandemic,” says Alan Wozniak, President/CEO of Pure Air Control Services, Inc. “This cutting-edge technology allows us to help businesses provide an extra layer of assurance to their customers and staff that their building is safe for occupancy.”

The EDLab Coronavirus test is designed to determine the virus presence via its RNA fingerprint on frequently touched and visited hard surfaces and fomites within the occupiable space. These include, but are not limited to, door handles, elevator buttons, desktops, computer keyboards, copy machines, appliances and many other things that are at risk of contamination. It is recommended to perform the test pre and post disinfection.

“One of the most urgent requests from our customers during the COVID-19 Pandemic has been for Coronavirus environmental testing” Says Dr. Rajiv Sahay, Director of Environmental Diagnostics Laboratory, “That is why EDLab has taken the initiative to rapidly implement this specialized RNA amplification testing to assist them with risk management and validate disinfection procedures.”

Samples are collected using an aseptic swab with a synthetic tip and plastic shaft. They are then sent to EDLab for testing utilizing reverse transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) technology. This test determines the presence or absence of Coronavirus on surface samples. SARS-CoV-2 positive and negative control samples run simultaneously to validate the test. The results are precise, consistent, repeatable and accurate based on gene amplification.

Once the Coronavirus environmental testing is complete a full report is issued that is helpful in determining a disinfection plan and can used to provide clearance for re-occupancy upon completion of a successful remediation project.

Since 1984 Pure Air Control Services has effectively dealt with emerging pathogen situations by using and developing state-of-the-art technology. The COVID-19 pandemic is no different. Coronavirus environmental testing via the RT-qPCR technique is an integral part of reopening the economy by instilling occupant confidence in the health and safety of their buildings.
