Novaform Mattresses Recalled for Risk of Mold Exposure

Novaform Mattresses Recalled for Risk of Mold Exposure

About 48,000 models, sold exclusively at Costco, may pose a health risk to vulnerable consumers.

FXI, the U.S.-based producer of Novaform mattresses, has recalled roughly 48,000 mattresses because they can pose a health risk to those with a compromised immune system, damaged lungs, or a mold allergy. The recalled models are the Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses, which were exclusively sold at certain Costco locations and online between January 2023 and June 2023. More than 500 users have reported mold on their mattresses, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice. It is believed that these mattresses could have been exposed to water during the manufacturing process, which allowed mold to develop over time. No injuries have been reported.

Consumer Reports tested an older version of the Novaform Comfort Grande in 2016 but has not tested versions of the mattresses currently being recalled. We removed the tested model from our active ratings because that specific design was discontinued by FXI in 2020. We did not observe the problem during the course of the former model’s evaluation.

CR has also evaluated three other Novaform mattresses, currently in our ratings: the Novaform 10″ SoFresh Responsive Foam, Novaform 14″ Serafina Pearl Cool Comfort Medium Gel Memory Foam Mattress, and Novaform nüe by Novaform 10″ Cooling Gel mattress, none of which showed visible signs of the mold problem during our testing.
